Jorge A. López
Pastor
Rev. Jorge A. López joined us on July 1, 2024. He was born and raised in Arroyo, a small town in southern Puerto Rico. Rev. López is a member of the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico, where he was ordained as an Elder in June 2008.
He has served as a pastor since July 2005. His first appointment was as an Associate Pastor at the Methodist Church "La Resurrección" in the city of Ponce. In 2006, he received a full-time appointment as the Senior Pastor at "Peña de Horeb" Methodist Church in Maunabo. While in this position, he earned a Master's degree in Divinity from the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico.
In 2009, he was appointed Senior Pastor at "La Resurrección" Methodist Church in Ponce. In 2016, he began his pastoral ministry at "Obispo Francis Asbury" Methodist Church in Bayamón.
In 2019, he moved to the New York Annual Conference to minister to a circuit of four churches in the Catskill Hudson District. The Mid Sullivan Parish comprised the congregations of Monticello, Hurleyville, Rock Hill, and Woodridge. Additionally, he was appointed Coordinator of the East Sullivan Cooperative Parish, overseeing 13 congregations. From there, he moved to the Florida Annual Conference and was named Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Homestead on July 1, 2024.
Pastor Jorge has two adult children: Fernando E. López and Laura S. López. Fernando resides in Kendall and works for a sound company after completing a bachelor's degree in music at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Laura holds a bachelor's degree in Drama from the University of Puerto Rico and lives in Puerto Rico.
Pastor Jorge recently married Jenny Medina, a teacher by profession. Both share a great passion for church ministry and are dedicated to collaborating with each ministry within the church for the glory of God.
Pastor Jorge is currently in his final year of the Doctoral Program in Ministry at Drew University. His primary goal is to use his knowledge, talents, and skills to strengthen the administration and development of multicultural and multiracial ministries.
You will usually find Pastor Jorge in the office Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. If you need counseling or prayer, please feel free to make an appointment through the administrative assistant, and Pastor Jorge will be happy to meet with you.
